Straining, sweating, sparkling. HOT YOGA!

On the 11th of October 2024, Zack met a boy outside of a neon red HOT YOGA sign and his life changed forever. Exactly one year later, Zack releases his transmedia memoir HOT YOGA. 

After suffering a brain-altering heart break at the hands of a Pākehā socialite, Zack weaves this tale with the events of his Māori father’s brain-altering heart attack. This forms the first instalment in Zack’s multidisciplinary series, Mate Manawa (Heart Attack).

Re-contextualising seemingly innocuous moments, daily lives are revealed to have grander political implications and the colonial cultural framework established in so-called Australia is found to be wholly incompatible with the truth of Zack’s body and self. Class and race are spun into a single thread holding the tension of colonial injustices and capitalistic pleasures. The thread glows red.

The moment you brush your teeth. The moment you feel pretty in a mirror and take a selfie. The moment you see fire in the eyes of someone not so unlike yourself. These moments... this moment now, is the only moment where decolonisation can be done. It begins in our bodies, stretched and sweating, posing in heat.

They hold each other. For a moment, still. Another world is seen in each other. They laugh their way out of it…

ABOUT SHIPPING:

HOT YOGA is scheduled to be out in OCTOBER. Any shipped orders will be dispatched during October.

Pick Up option: Liaise with Zack to choose a time and place to collect. Pick up will be immediately available in Naarm/Melbourne. Available a few months later in Sydney, and may even be available in Auckland and Wellington at a later date. The pick-up option is free as there is no deadline for when you obtain the publication, you will receive it when our paths cross. :)

Zack Lewin (he/him)

Zack is a takatāpui (Ngai Te Rangi) multidisciplinary artist from Bidjigal land in Sydney. In 2023, Zack completed his Master of Theatre (Dramaturgy) at UniMelb with first-class honours and completed a hospitanz at the Schaubühne in Berlin. In early 2025, Zack co-founded the guerilla arts criticism platform ORANGUTAN with journalist Grace Ellen Macpherson. As a SUPERMASSIVE artist with APHIDS for 2025, Zack is presently focused on the creation of his Mate Manawa series. These three meta-autobiographical works exist in distinct mediums, deploying a self-reflexive exploration of queer sexuality/romance as methods of embodied decolonisation.
